Caregiver Support – Community Match Program
The Community Match Program is available in your home, or in a long term care facility or in the hospital as long as it is within the Prince George area.
Our volunteers complete comprehensive training before working in the Community Match Program.
Tasks and duties that a volunteer may take on will vary from family to family and are flexible to best meet your needs.
If you are interested in participating in this program call the Volunteer Resources Co-ordinator at (250 563-2551. The co-ordinator will book a time to come and meet you and your loved one to assess needs, preferences, etc in order to make the best match possible with a volunteer.
This program is free of charge.
For the Family
Being a caregiver takes a tremendous amount of energy and dedication. Our volunteer program helps to ease some of the stress and provide support to both the person who is ill and the people who live him/her.
The volunteer will come to you home once or twice a week for 1-2 hours. They can provide:
- Respite so you can go out for a coffee, a walk, do errands or just take a break
- Non-judgmental and impartial listening
- Emotional support
For Your Loved One
Our volunteers are comfortable sitting in silence, listening to stories and engaging in favorite pastimes with the person who is ill. They can provide:
- Non-demanding support and presence for your loved one
- Assistance with tasks such as letter writing or creating memoirs
- Companionship
- Assistance with personal care
Community match is not able to provide transportation for the person who is ill nor for family and friends. Volunteers cannot administer medications.
